Being candid here – dealing with PR & media agencies can be quite frustrating at times! It seems they speak some sort of alien language and follow a different logic than the rest of us 😊
This is not about one or a few particular agencies that may be outliers, but it’s the norm across the entire industry worldwide… I’ve seen this with more than 50 of them in multiple regions.
If you’ve dealt with these agencies you might agree with me that it’s very hard to get any clear and concise information from them. They just try to wow you with long, heavily designed slide decks that don’t really say anything, while avoiding any semblance of clear deliverables and accountability.
Most of them are used to serving big corporates and cannot handle the needs of a startup. And when it comes to payment, they just prefer a cushy monthly income known as a “retainer” rather than anything ties to actual performance.
Honestly I can’t see how this industry has endured so long in this manner. I think the industry is very ripe for shake-up and disruption. I would call on savvy entrepreneurs to take on this challenge – or perhaps I can take a stab at it myself!
