Do computer systems make mistakes?
Yes, ALL THE TIME!
Just this week I had to spend many hours of my time calling and chasing up to fix errors made by computers. For example:
– My credit card is set to be paid automatically but it didn’t, leaving me with extra fees and marring my credit record
– A product I paid for online but the order somehow wasn’t “captured” by the system… now have to go beg for it or get my money back
– Order shipments going in the wrong place
– Airline miles not being recorded after flights
And the list goes on…
The problem is, in each case I have to drop my work and go chasing after these things which originally should have happened correctly. I wonder what is the total loss of porductvity in the world because of such things!
In this day and age we trust computers with nearly everything.
I suppose computer errors are mostly due to human errors of the people handling these systems?
